Derek represents businesses and individuals in state and federal court in all aspects of real estate and business litigation. Derek has argued in various trial courts across the state of Indiana, the Indiana Court of Appeals, and several zoning boards. His experience includes cases involving the following:
- Contract and lease disputes
- Commercial landlord / tenant disputes and evictions
- Construction and lien disputes
- Mortgage foreclosure and banking litigation
- Easement and right-of-way disputes
- Eminent domain, tax sales, and quite title
- Breach of implied and express warranties
- Zoning and land use
Prior to joining the Firm, Derek served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Thomas J. Felts in the Allen Circuit Court. Derek assisted Judge Felts with the Allen Circuit Court civil docket by conducting legal research prior to hearings, assessing oral arguments, providing recommendations, and drafting orders. Derek served as Judge Pro Tempore hearing a variety of civil and family law cases, ruling on evidentiary disputes during hearings, and drafting final orders. He also served as a Family Law Arbitrator hearing dissolution, custody, parenting time, and support cases.
